Everyday you use your hands to complete nearly every task, without even noticing. Hand injuries can occur in countless ways and for that reason there are countless ways to treat these issues. Hand Therapy is a highly specialized area of rehabilitation. The treatments used for hand therapy vary based on the type of condition, the extent of said condition and your ultimate goals for rehabilitation.

Hand Therapy is a type of rehabilitation implemented by an occupational or physical therapist with patients that suffer from conditions affecting the hands and upper extremities. Hand Therapy quickly restores patients’ ability to complete daily tasks.

Patients who are candidates for hand therapy may have been affected by an accident or trauma leaving them with wounds, scars, burns, injured tendons or nerves, fractures, or even amputations of the fingers, hands or arms. Others include patients who suffer from conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow, as well as from chronic problems such as arthritis or a neurologic condition.

Therapists use an occupation-based and client-centered approach that identifies the participation needs of the client, focusing on the tasks what he or she wants to be able to perform in daily life as the primary goal of therapy. Clients can see a direct relationship between their occupational therapy intervention and being able to resume normal participation in their activities.

At Bone & Joint Clinic, we will use a holistic approach to evaluate and assess each individual’s condition and needs to create a customized treatment approach. We are committed to creating the best plan for each patient’s unique situation and providing the best care possible.
